Community and Recreation Center Pool Opens

This year light concessions will be available for pool-goers.

The Upper St. Clair Community and Recreation Center's outdoor pool will open for the season at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

The timing couldn't be anymore perfect with the National Weather Service in Moon Township predicting highs in the high 80s on Saturday and Sunday, and a high of 90 degrees on Memorial Day.

This year pool-goers will be able to purchase light concessions from AVI Foodsystems, such as sandwiches, salads and soft drinks.

The concession stand will be open this weekend and following weekends until school ends. Then the concession stand will be available from 12 to 6 p.m. on Wednesdays through Sundays. Be sure to bring cash.

If you plan on going to the pool as soon as it opens on Saturday, don't be surprised when you see a police officer directing you to the left when you turn into the recreation center's entrance. The opening ceremony for the new Miracle Field will be taking place and the officer will be on hand to direct traffic and organize parking.

Chris Biswick, aquatics supervisor, said his staff is ready for this weekend's opening. There will be eight lifeguards on duty at all times.

The outdoor pool will be open every day from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. However, on Monday, Memorial Day, the pool will close early at 5 p.m.

The indoor pool and indoor facility will also have shortened hours on Memorial Day—10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Do you plan on going to the pool this weekend? This summer? Tell us in the comments.

Why do the pools close early and have shortened hours on a holiday?

Because it's a holiday? the rec center has standard holiday hours. They could have just closed all day.
