Committee Recommends No Rate Increase for C&RC Members

The parks and recreation committee examined a status report Monday night.

The Upper St. Clair Parks and Recreation Committee decided not to recommend a rate increase for Community and Recreation Center members on Monday night.

"We can hold off for another year," said Matthew Serakowski, township manager.

Commissioners in December approved a budget that planned for a 2.5 percent rate increase, according to Commissioner Daniel Paoly. Serakowski told him the increase is not needed.

The board of commissioners are expected to take a final vote on no rate increases at their March 4 meeting.

if you would allow drilling in the wooded area around the park you would NEVER need an increase. In fact you could make it FREE to all members!

Because the C&RC is part of the Township of Upper St. Clair, you will find all the financial information you would like to know in the Township Budget and monthly financial reports. These are public documents and are available in the USC Library or at the Township office. I think you will see far more disclosure than you'll find if you ask LA Fitness or the YMCA for financial status about a specific location that they operate.

Students regardless of age should be allowed to remain under their family's membership. They punish those pursuing advanced educational degrees by "kicking them off" their family plan at 22 years old and force them to pay separately. Their argument is that rates are comparable with other gym facilities- they are wrong- the CRC is much more expensive per visit. If this is how the community treats its future generation of residents, then I will certainly live elsewhere and I know others think the same.

I would happily pay 2.5% more if they extended their hours. 12-5pm on Sunday is ridiculous!

Lidsay - I would suggest you join LA Fitness which has more accommodating hours. Also they have more handsome young men like myself who are members!

I checked out the Community Recreation Center and the rates and programs included in my LA Fitness membership make it a better value compared to the community program.

I pay about $10.00 less per month and the group fitness classes are included.

I completely agree with the comments about LA Fitness versus C&RC. I'm surprised the C&RC doesn't charge extra to breath their oxygen while there. I'm going back to LA Fitness where I can get more for my money. It's ridiculous that they were even considering a rate increase!!

Lisa gets it. we are a family from outside and we luv the center, services and we can all have something to do there. Our household income is about 50% of the USC $99,000/year. To Lindsay, maybe you need to slow down to find a time to use the center from 5am-10pm most days. Sounds like you grew up in the bubble. USC31, stay on mommy and daddy's benefits as long as you can cause it is a tough world outside the usc bubble. USC is so lucky it is unbelievable. Look what we have in Bethel. Nice, but are you serious? Everytime I am at the USC center some resident is making a stink like - there isn't a sushi bar and Richie forgot his lunch, or no one there to hand a towel in the locker room, hand out powder to to pick up after them. Marlo/Jack good luck cause yinz are leaving a good thing. Idea, let's change the center's name to the USC Entitlement Center. All your complaining is going to chase all of us out then you will really have something to complain about. These coments are the best ever on the patch I can't wait for the responses.

It's a rec center. It should be open longer on Saturday and Sunday. When family's have time for recreation. We joined the first year when you could join indoor or indoor/outdoor. That was nice to have a choice. Three are 3 total in my family, 2 used the facility. We used it in the winer about 2 dozen times. Tried the outdoor pool once. Did not like the outdoor pool for the summer. When we go now I don't mind paying the day rate.
I would like the hours to be extended on the weekends. If not all year maybe just for the long winter months!
