Chipotle Set to Open in January

The Mexican restaurant will replace Pearl Vision.

A new Chipotle Mexican Grill is set to open in Upper St. Clair on Jan. 23, according to a Chipotle official.

The restuarant joins Norman Centre on Washington Road in the former Pearl Vision store.

In September, commissioners approved the addition of 22 more parking spots to accomodate the restaurant.

There are plenty of FAR worse options than Chipotle. Just because a restaurant is part of a chain doesn't inherently make it bad.

I would love to have the type of restaurants and atmosphere as uptown Mt. Lebanon but we just don't have the geography or environment for something like that.

I still stand by my comment. Chain restaurant not needed. We are turning our area into another characterless "Anywhere USA".

So you would rather have vacant space? If the choice is between a chain restaurant and nothing, I will take the chain restaurant anytime.

I would rather be "Anywhere USA" than another empty "Rust Belt USA"

@Nancy- Whole Foods is coming and so is a whole new shopping plaza where they're tearing down Consol. LOTS more commercialism/retail/chain restaurants coming to USC soon...

@momof2 I can't tell if my sarcasm meter is broken. Are you hinting that this type of growth is bad for the community? I would love to see more local restaurants. Bistro 19, il piziaolo, little Tokyo, all small business and some of my favorite restaurants. But I will take whoever is willing to pay rent. More retail means more jobs and more taxes which is good for the township and the area.

What I'm saying is if (as Bryan argued) we have a community problem with too many already existing empty storefronts, why are we building new retail buildings when there are so many existing spaces to fill? And those 'extra tax dollars' for USC are going to go into spending on widening our roads to handle the traffic, extra stop lights, etc. None of these community impact studies were done prior to the new development being approved. Not arguing with you anymore.

This article has an interesting debate going on our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/UpperStClairPatch). What do you like best: Chipotle, Moe's or Qdoba?

When did I say I wanted nothing but vacant space? That's quite a leap.

That place is great!! Also, a great option for eating healthy. They are extremely popular in California. Better than another bank or pharmacy!!

So many better, small, un-chain Mexican restaurants in the area...I agree with Momof2...ditch the chains and support small, locally owned businesses.

Unfortunately there are very few small, locally owned buinesses left that could afford to renovate the space that Pearl Vision previously occupied to house their business.

I just had to delete a comment because it contained a personal attack and that's against the Patch Terms of Service you all agree to when you register as a member of Patch to make a comment. This article is about a new restaurant—are personal attacks really necessary??

Sorry Ms. Brindle....I will refrain from speaking my mind about Bryan's comments. I was just giving my opinion.
The real question should be, Does everyone really care that a certain person lives in close proximity to a restaurant chain?

@Wake Up. It's really a shame when people can't voice their opinions anymore on a public forum. What is this…Communist China!!!! I agree with your earlier comment, no one cares that Bryan lives so close to the new Chipotle.

I am pleased that Upper Saint Clair area residents will have a restaurant in their neighborhood which is known not only for delicious, moderately-priced meals, but that which is reasonably healthful and unadulterated with junk ingredients.

Now, if only we could lure California/Florida salad bar restaurant chain extraordinaire Souplantation/Sweet Tomatoes to this part of the country, we would be in business!
