As the sun set over Panther Stadium, 368 members of the Upper St. Clair High School Class of 2012 took the first step toward a bright future Thursday evening during the 52nd annual commencement.

Superintendent Patrick O'Toole thanked parents, family and friends for their continued support as his speech ran, as promised, uninterrupted by the weather as it had been last year.

From baby steps to giant leaps, Valedictorian Taylor Manalo took her classmates back to the roots of their academic adventures, from kindergarten though middle-school and beyond.

Tassels and mortar boards dotted the horizon as the final names were called. The graduating class will begin their new journey tomorrow, one step at a time.
