Bonefish Grill in Upper St. Clair is now open and has something for everyone.

The restaurant chain is the first to open in the Pittsburgh area and is known for its fresh seafood.

The Bang Bang Shrimp appetizer—tender, crispy shrimp tossed in a creamy, spicy (but not too spicy) sauce—is its most popular menu item. It's only $5 on Wednesdays.

Customers can also try the Bang Bang Shrimp in a taco.

Some of the other fish choices include Chilean sea bass, longfin tilapia and ahi tuna. Pair the fish with one of four sauces: warm mango salsa, chimichurri, lemon butter and pan Asian.

The kobe beef burger (must use two hands!) and Lily's Chicken—with goat cheese, sautéed spinach, artichoke hearts and a lemon basil sauce—are also very popular purchases at the seafood chain.

The fresh fish dishes pair well with the large array of "bar-fresh" cocktails. Even the screwdriver is made with freshly-squeezed orange juice.

A favorite martini is the Ocean Trust Mango Martini—Absolut Citron vodka combined with freshly muddled mango and orange. For each Ocean Trust Martini sold, Bonefish Grill donates $1 to Ocean Trust.

“We are excited to open our doors and become part of the South Hills community,” said Joshua Ward, managing partner of Bonefish Grill in South Hills and Carnegie resident. “Our team looks forward to providing locals with the classic Bonefish Grill experience—from fresh fish and innovative dishes to warm hospitality and inviting atmosphere—our goal is to ensure exceptional dining from start to finish.”

Ward said the restaurant hired about 120 employees, with about 90 percent of the from the South Hills area, and there are plans to add a second Bonefish Grill in the Cranberry area.

The restaurant kicked off its opening with a Charity Night on Jan. 12. More than $9,000 was raised for the United Way of Allegheny County.

Bonefish Grill is located at 1835 Washington Rd. Dinner is served seven days a week: 4 to 10:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday; 4 to 11:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday, including Sunday brunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. While reservations are not required, they are available by calling 412-835-3239. An ample number of seats are available nightly for walk-ups.

Bonefish Grill was founded in 2000 in St. Petersburg, FL.

Salmon, farm-raised, or wild-ocean?

The article says nothing about pricing. The silence implies Bonefish is a high-priced restaurant, right?

How about healthy choices? Does the menu provide any nutrition info for those us who are keeping track?

Becky, thanks for the link. It provides no pricing. It is a general menu, with provision of "varies depending upon location." In essence, one does not know what is there until arrival. That is OK for a large-scale chain. I did learn about today's special in the Tampa Bay location -- empty page.

In reading the selections, it looks like another typical restaurant in today's market -- some selection, floating or bathed in sauces. Bonefish could be an Olive Garden look-alike, same style of execution, but with different foundation. What happened to letting the cooked food stand on its own, without some chef trying to make it something different, covering with sauces, or resting in a tub of some concoction? Too bad for Bonefish. I was looking forward to a good fish eatery.

Roger, too bad you're so negative & not open to new experiences. I don't find their menu & prices offensive at all. Prices are comparable to other mid-range restaurants & the format (not using $ signs) is one used at other places. You must not get out much! I'm happy to have another dining alternative, albeit a chain. As for Olive Garden, are you kidding? Not my idea of good Italian food!

Roger - sauces/toppings are are offered as side items not required on any dish .
Here is a link to the South Hills Menu with pricing , http://bloominbrandscms.blob.core.windows.net/bfglocations-menus/0309.pdf .
I have eaten at many Bonefish nationwide and always find a friendly staff , great service and consistently great food.

Glenn, thanks for the link. The .pdf is rather strange, however. It has numbers following the entries, such as 17, 12.5, etc. I presume these are dollar amounts. I'm wondering why they are not in the form of $xx.xx. Minor detail, if my assumption is right. It seems like a strange site to host a menu for the Pittsburgh location.

If those are prices, then the assumption of high prices is right. Bonefish has reason to not post prices on their web site. I still see lots of offerings that speak of sauces used for the dishes. Some selections may have the sauces on the side. Yes, an Olive Garden look-alike.

No thanks, ...not for me.

Roger, you must eat out very little (if ever). MANY MANY restaurants have menus just the same as Bonefish without using the dollar sign. Generally higher end restaurants do this because of customer perceptions.

Also, if you think those are high prices then maybe you are used to EatNPark prices? Those prices are lower or close to than most quality chain restaurants in the area. Certainly nowhere near high end restaurant prices.

I would call those prices to be a middle priced restaurant.

Can't really compare it to Olive Garden without trying it. Although I doubt I will frequent it too often as I am allergic to all seafood.

If you don't want sauce tell the server...."no sauce, please" or..."on the side". I don't think they force sauce on you.
After they've been open awhile, I would be interested in a comparison with "Mitchell's"

This is a restaurant I have heard raves about from many people. Comparing it to Olive Garden is ignorant.

We ate dinner there last night. Thought the food was excellent and the service pleasant. Plenty of options including some serving sizes. Although it is a chain, it does offer different items than the other chains that currently surround us.

We ate dinner at Bonefish on Monday night (opening night) . The food was good and service was supprisingly good for opening night . The wine selection was just average , about what you would expect at a chain restaurant. Overall we liked it and will go back . It is a nice addition to our neighborhood options. Only complaint was that the music was playing way too loud and conversation was difficult

It is a feather in the cap of this area to have a restaurant like Bonefish Grill in the community. I do not eat seafood or fish, but am pleased to see that the menu offers many other items that look tantalizing. I find the prices to be moderate, what one would expect for a restaurant of this stature, similar to Atria's. When I drove by at 5:30 p. m. Wednesday, the parking lot was filled. No one seems to be paying attention to the individuals engaged in a labor dispute against the restaurant, standing outside holding a large sign. The only additions to the menu that I would suggest would be some healthful and vegetarian options as was suggested by another reader. It appears that the restaurant is off to a great start. I suspect it will continue to generate significant business in a great location and in an area in which the impact of a poor economy has been perhaps as small as anywhere in the country. Now, how about a Cheesecake Factory opening in the South Hills?
