Avid Reader Wins Eisenhower Spelling Bee
After 10 rounds, Katie McCurrie out-spelled 20 of her fellow students.
After 10 rounds on Monday afternoon, Katie McCurrie was the last of 21 Eisenhower Elementary fourth graders left standing during the school's annual spelling bee.
Katie correctly spelled "resuscitable" in the championship round to win.
"I was really nervous at first and got better at the end," Katie said.
"I'm proud of her. She likes to read. Spelling comes easy to her," said Barbara McCurrie, Katie's mother. "More importantly, everyone had fun with it."
Katie confirmed what her mother said; her favorite subject in school is reading. A Letter to Mrs. Roosevelt is currently her favorite book.
Aleksa Rodic came in second place—lasting nine rounds. The word that tricked him was "slantindicular."
This year's spelling bee was held at the Community and Recreation Center.
